I have a pretty good idea of what the anime will cover, and that arc functions pretty well as a meta mystery, discussing at length how audience expectations factor into the development of a mystery series and how to play with established rules of writing mystery. Kyokou Suiri’s a manga I happened upon pretty early into its run, and I’ve been inconsistently keeping up with it since then. I don’t expect Magireco to reach the highs that Madoka did (or at least the highs I remember it reaching 9 years is a long time okay), but it doesn’t need to for me to be largely satisfied with it. I don’t expect the Magireco anime to be an endless well of creativity like those worlds were due to influences both internal and external at Shaft, but there’s enough of an apparent creative voice in the PV that I’m much more interested than I was before. That was until I learned Gekidan Inu Curry was in a chief creative position for the anime considering how much of the original anime they were involved in, most notably the designs for a lot of the witch worlds, that did a lot to ignite my interest. At first I was barely even paying attention to Magia Record, since the mobile game and anime both just felt like continuing to milk a series that had already resolved itself perfectly well.
